The Jing’an Temple, “Temple of Peace and Tranquility”, is a Buddhist temple on the West Nanjing Road in the Jing’an District of Shanghai. The district was named after the temple that was first built in 247 AD in the Wu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China. The original temple was not located at this site, but it was relocated here in 1216 during the Song Dynasty. The current temple was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty and has been renovated several times since.
