This week’s travel theme “sweet” is a fun one, except when you are on a diet. After our last trip I decided that it was time to lose a few pounds before we go into football season and the holidays. So I will have to relive some past sweets. The top photo is from Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon. We expected to sample some good local brews with dinner, and we did, but it was the sweet potato pie that made the evening so memorable. The dessert special was sweet potato pie that the waitress said was “to die for.” When she brought it to the table, it was the most unusual looking piece of pie you will ever see. But as good as it looked, apparently it tasted even better because all my wife could say was “Mmmm…” after every bite. This was the same response she had when we ordered the chocolate souffle for dessert when we were in Paris. The second photo is of the waiter pouring the chocolate sauce. I decided not to post the photo of the empty bowl. The third and fourth photos are of macaroons and chocolate muffins in a pastry shop in Paris. We sampled the macaroons, something that you try when in Paris, but we showed restraint by skipping the chocolate muffins.
