Jesuit Church
Lucerne’s Jesuit Church (Jesuitenkirche) was the first large baroque church built in Switzerland north of the alps. It was constructed by Father Christoph Vogler for the Jesuits in 1666. The vault was redecorated in the mid-18th century. It was an expression of the Catholic Church’s 17th century struggle to regain spiritual leadership in the counter-reformation. The baroque architecture was a display of the power, glory and emphasis on those parts of Catholic tradition (especially the veneration of saints) and its visual culture, as opposed to the protestant emphasis on the word of the biblical scriptures. Today the church is a major tourist attraction and serves as a concert hall, but it has become almost irrelevant to local church life from a religious point of view.
Polit-onomics & Travel 
It is nice to see what the church looks like during the day. I was there in the evening, and it was dark, gloomy and very daunting, even though the church was still open. As it was Christmas, the outside of the church was lit up with lights.
