Travel Photo of the Day 04-01-2013

Hey you, can you hand me that fruit that fell on the ground?

Hey you, can you hand me that fruit that fell on the ground?

Mmmm, this is so good!

Mmmm, this is so good!

I think I ate too much! I need a nap.

The green monkey (Chlorocebus sabaeus), also known as the Sabaeus monkey, has golden-green fur and pale hands and feet. The tip of the tail is golden-yellow as are the backs of the thighs and cheek whiskers. The green monkey is found in West Africa from Senegal to the Volta River. They have been introduced to the Cape Verde islands off northwestern Africa, and the West Indian islands of Saint Kitts, Nevis, Saint Martin and Barbados. They were introduced to the West Indies in the late 17th century when slave trade ships traveled to the Caribbean from West Africa. This guy was at the Highland Adventure Center in Saint Thomas parish in Barbados. They eat a wide variety of foods including fruits and invertebrates. This guy had trained the tourists to pick up his food that had fallen to the ground. He sat on his perch and kept looking down at it. When someone tossed it onto his platform, he chowed down and, like most of us after a big meal, it was time for a nap.
