Colosseum - Rome, Italy

Colosseum – Rome, Italy

The Colosseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre,  began construction in 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus. The Colosseum was capable of seating 50,000 spectators, was used for gladiatorial contests and other public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. In the foreground is part of the ruins in the Forum.
