Lake Tekapo is a beautiful turquoise glacial lake located to the south of Mt. Cook National Park on the South Island of New Zealand. The turquoise color is due to the rock flour (sediments) that was created when the lake’s basin was gouged out by a glacier moving across the surface with rock-on-rock action grinding out fine particles that were suspended in the glacial melt water. Across the lake you can see the Southern Alps mountain range. Sitting adjacent to Lake Tekapo is the simple stone Church of the Good Shepherd. This picturesque little church was built in 1935 of stone and oak to be in harmony with its surroundings. The church is a favorite location for getting married because it is a postcard-perfect setting for your wedding photos.
