Travel Photo of the Day 10-16-2012

Pudong – Shanghai, China

Running through the city of Shanghai is the Huangpu River. The west bank of the river is known as the Bund, which is lined by landmark hotels and buildings with European style architecture. The Bund was the financial motor behind Shanghai’s success and Europe’s corporate perch in China. But across the river is Shanghai’s newfangled face, which is known as Pudong. This is China’s shrine to international finance and the face they put forward to the world. Pudong has been earmarked for China’s tallest buildings, two of which were under construction during our visit. The iconic eye-catching structure is the Oriental Pearl TV tower, with its circular base sitting on a concrete tripod. Adjacent to the tower is the Shanghai convention center with its giant globes on each end.

  1. Looks like something from a Star Wars movie.
