Mendenhall River – Alaska

The Mendenhall River is located north of Juneau in the  Mendenhall Valley. The river begins at the Mendenhall Lake at the base of the Mendenhall Glacier. The Mendenhall River is about six miles long, one mile of which is whitewater. You can raft the river and, with a relatively mild whitewater section, it is a good river for beginners. Rafting trips start on the far side of the lake. As you gently paddle across the lake towards the mouth of the river,  there is plenty of time to take in the beautiful views of the Mendenhall Glacier. The glacier extends about 12 miles from its source, the Juneau Icefield, to its terminus at the head of the lake.
