Athabasca River – Jasper National Park, Canada

The Athabasca River runs through the heart of Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. Established as a forest reserve in 1907, Jasper is the largest national park and wildlife sanctuary in the Canadian Rockies, encompassing 4,200 square miles. The town of Jasper is located in the park and has a year-round population of approximately 5,400. Located 3 hours north of Banff and 3 hours west of Edmonton, visitors don’t tend to wander in on a whim. They come for the unspoiled scenery and the chance to spot big horn sheep, bears, moose, elk, caribou, mountain goats, and wolves.
