Dove Lake – Cradle Mountain National Park, Tasmania

Face Track – Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park in western Tasmania is a hikers heaven. There are numerous day walks ranging from easy walking on a boardwalk the entire way to difficult trekking which could include steep climbs. But for the really ambitious there is the 5-day 80.5 km Overland Track from Lake St. Clair to Cradle Mountain. This World Heritage area covers 1262 square kilometers of spectacular mountain peaks, deep gorges, lakes, tarns and wild moorlands. Dove Lake is located in the northern portion of the park at the base of Cradle Mountain. Walking along the Face Track you pass under Little Horn, Weindorfers Tower and Cradle Mountain with fantastic views of Dove Lake the entire way. Too bad it is so far away from South Florida, but at least I was able to fit in a 6-hour day hike on our visit to this beautiful part of Tasmania.
