Blue-footed booby – Galapagos Islands

The blue-footed booby is the most easily seen but the least abundant of the boobies found in the Galapagos Islands. Boobies are closely related to gannets and share their teardrop-shaped body, conical bill and plunge-diving feeding technique. In one of the most comical courtship displays of the bird world, a booby pair will lift their feet one at a time and wave them in the air. The Galapagos is one of the few places on earth where someone can still approach so closely to be in the same photo with a blue-footed booby.
