Red Rock Canyon - Nevada

Red Rock Canyon

The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is located about 15 miles west of Las Vegas, and easily seen from the Las Vegas Strip. With its close proximity to downtown and the strip, it is easy to see why this area is visited by over 1 million visitors each year. The mountains consist of large red rock formations, which are a set of sandstone peaks and walls called the Keystone Thrust. The walls are up to 3,000 feet high, making them popular for hiking and rock climbing. The highest point is La Madre Mountain at 8,154 feet. If you are not up for the hiking, there is a one-way loop road, 13 miles long, which provides vehicle access to many of the features in the area. There are several side roads and parking areas providing access to many of the trails located for those that are up for a hike of various lengths and difficulty.
