Institut de France - Paris, France

The Institut de France is a French learned society, grouping five académies, the most famous of which is the Académie francaise (French Academy, concerning the French language) founded in 1635. The others are Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres (Academy of Humanities), Académie des sciences (Academy of Sciences), Académie des beaux-arts (Academy of Fine Arts) and Académie des sciences morales et politiques(Academy of Moral and Political Sciences).  The building which houses the Institut de France was constructed between 1663 and 1684 through a bequest of Cardinal Mazarin and was known at first as the Collège des Quatres Nations.
