Machu Picchu – Peru

 

Intipunku – Sun Gate

One of the three walks that you can do while at Machu Picchu is the trek to Intipunku, the Sun Gate. The Sun Gate is located on Machu Picchu mountain and is the terminus of the “Classic Inca Trail”. You can actually see the sun rise in this gateway from the western heights of the Machu Picchu ruins during certain times of the year. The view of Machu Picchu from Intipunku is magnificent, with Huayna Picchu in the background, the switchbacks of the road from Aguas Calientes in the foreground and the Urubamba River below.
