Phantom Ship at Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

Crater Lake National Park is located in southern Oregon in the Cascade Mountain Range. The park was established in 1902 by Teddy Roosevelt. It was the sixth designated national park in the United States. The park encompasses the caldera of Crater Lake which is the remnant of a destroyed volcano known as Mount Mazama. There are numerous observation points along the caldera rim which are readily accessible by car along the “Rim Drive”, which is 33 miles long. One of those viewpoints is the Phantom Ship Overlook. The Phantom Ship is a remaining section of the filled conduit of a fissure. The island is approximately 500 feet long with a maximum width of 200 feet. Its ridge of spires extend 170 feet  above the water.
