Christmas Dinner – Queenstown, New Zealand

Where is the most unusual place you have ever had Christmas dinner? We have always enjoyed traveling over the holidays because it affords us the opportunity to take longer trips without too much disruption to our work schedules. In December of 2000 we were in Queenstown, New Zealand. We had spent several days in this area, including a trip to Milford Sound (see Travel Photo of the Day 12-03-2011) and we were departing for Mt Cook after spending our morning taking the Skyline Gondola to the top for a fantastic view of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu (see 08-27-2011). Since there was little chance we would find a place open on Christmas Day, the hotel made us box lunches and we headed off towards Mt Cook. Along the way the coach pulled over and we made our way partially up the hill, sat down with our box lunch and just took in the beautiful surroundings on a nice warm and sunny Christmas Day. This is our most unusual place we have had Christmas Dinner.

  1. Christmas in Borneo – I was stuck a town waiting for a flight to the Kelibet Highlands and in spent the night with a hundred Chinese people in an all you can eat fest for about 5 bucks – it was amazing

    • How serendipitous. That certainly qualifies as an unusual Christmas dinner.
