Hofgut Sternen – Black Forest – Germany

Hotel Hofgut Sternen

Situated in a quiet district between Freiburg and Titisee in the heart of the Black Forest is the Hotel Hofgut Sternen. After spending the day in Heidelberg we headed south and as we rounded a bend into the Hofgut Sternen grounds my wife let out a big gasp. She said it was just like being in a fairytale. This beautiful little hotel complex of 120 luxury rooms, cozy restaurant and bar with a 200 year old cellar vault and glass-blowing workshop. It also includes the Black Forest Cuckoo Clock workshop and gift shop. The first Black Forest clock was made entirely of wood in the year 1640. The first handcarved cuckoo clock resembling a railway station-house was made in 1860. Today the cuckoo clocks are carved by hand at home by the people of the Black Forest. When the carvings are finished they bring them to the workshop and a clockmaker assembles the clocks, which of course, are for sale.  So if you’d like to fulfill your wife’s childhood fantasies, consider a trip to the Black Forest.
