Travel Photo of the Day 11-28-2011

Cozumel is an island in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It is a tourist destination best known for its diving and snorkeling. It was in 1960 that the locals introduced Jacques Cousteau to the extent and beauty of  the coral reefs at the south end of Cozumel and he publicized it as one of the best places to go scuba diving in the world.  These coral reefs are protected from the open ocean by the island’s natural geography. In 1996 the government of Mexico established the Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park, forbidding anyone from touching or removing any marine life within the park boundaries.

  1. And where are corals?

    • I didn’t like any of my photos of the corals.
