Travel Photo of the Day 11-25-2011

Columbia Gorge (Looking East), Oregon

Just east of Portland you can take a drive on the Historic Columbia River Highway which opened in 1915 providing automobile access to the vistas of the gorge. A stop at the Vista House on Crown Point is a must. At an elevation of 733 feet above the river it provides some of the best views of the Columbia River and Gorge. Also along the historic highway you will find several picturesque waterfalls, including Multnomah Falls, the tallest in Oregon. In addition there are numerous trailheads that start from the highway. The best spot in the gorge for a hike is Eagle Creek Trail, so if you only have time for one hike, this is the one you should do.
