Travel Photo of the Day 11-22-2011

Bartolome, Galapagos Islands

The iconic photo of the Galapagos Islands is of Pinnacle Rock and the two beaches separated by a green isthmus taken from the top of the island. On our last full day in the Galapagos Islands we got up at 5:45 AM in order to hike to the top of Bartolome Island so that we could be at the top for sunrise. After taking many photos of this fantastic view we hiked back down and returned to the ship for breakfast. After which we returned and landed on the beach on the right side and hiked over the dunes to the turtle nesting beach on the left where we saw sea turtles, sea lions, iguanas and other lizards, Sally Lightfoot crabs and several bird species. After hiking back over the dunes to the other beach we went snorkeling around Pinnacle Rock which is where I saw this octopus.
