Travel Photo of the Day 11-08-2011

Nazca Booby – Galapagos Islands

The Nazca Booby was formally known as the masked booby but in 2001 it was discovered to be a new species. It is the largest of the boobies with males weighing up to 1.63 kg and the females being slightly bigger at 1.88 kg. The Nazca booby nests directly on the ground and will lay two eggs but only one chick will survive due to fratricide.
