Travel Photo of the Day 10-23-2011

Zion National Park, Utah

Since I am leaving today on a trip to Peru to hike the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, I thought a hiking picture from a previous trip was appropriate. This is a shot of the valley at Zion National Park as we were making our way back down on the Angels Landing Trail. We couldn’t make it to the very top of Angels Landing because the trail was too icey and the last portion required some rock climbing. One slip and it was a long way down.  Just doing Walter’s Wiggles covered in ice was challenging enough. One day I will have to go back in the summer to go to the top and do the narrows. Hiking through the narrows requires some walking in the river, which is not something you want to do in late December, even with a wetsuit.
