Travel Photo of the Day 10-10-2011

Denali National Park, Alaska

Denali National Park and Preserve is located in the interior portion of  Alaska. We reached the park by taking the McKinley Express from Anchorage; it is a great way to travel through central Alaska.  We spent a couple of nights in the lodge in the park and took the shuttle bus out into the park on the dirt road which is the only access road in the 6 million acre park. We had a beautiful day and were able to see Mt McKinley with its 20,320 foot peak which is the highest mountain in North America. Denali’s habitat is a mix of forest at the lowest elevations, including deciduous taiga, tundra at middle elevations, and glaciers, rock, and snow at the highest elevations.
